And so it begins
With the launch of the ThingsIX website and publishing the ThingsIX whitepaper the journey has begun to create a decentralized global internet for the internet of Things revolution. A lot is happening behind the scenes and in this first newsletter we want to inform you what keeps the ThingsIX team busy.
Public test network
Our first milestone is delivering a data only test network by the end of 2022. This test network is public and open for anyone. It will support the exchange of data between end-devices and application integrations. All that is required is a LoRa gateway and the ability to run and configure the required components.
Developing these components and the required support tooling is currently the main focus for the technical team. But we are happy to tell that in our lab environment data packets already have been successfully exchanged between end-devices and application integrations through the ThingsIX router software. And work on a dashboard that allows users to easily onboard and manage their gateways is well underway.
Proof of coverage
After the launch of the testnet the next milestone is to release ThingsIX mappers. Mappers are hardware devices that have similar LoRa characteristics as common LoRa devices. They can exchange data with gateway just as like LoRa end devices.
Through the ThingsIX coverage protocol gateways interact with mappers and can gather proof that it provides coverage in a sudden area. Once rewards are added to the network the gateway can submit this proof to ThingsIX and earn rewards for the provided coverage. The first generation of these mappers have been developed and tested. Learnings from these tests have lead to the second generation of prototypes that are currently being tested.
